Aarakocra Variant

An aarakocra ostrich bard by Tibeq

Ostrich aarakocra lack the powerful wings to take flight. They make up for this with incredible speed on land, rivaling that of a dashing tabaxi. Their wings are not wholly useless, as they serve to be an extra pair of hands and arms for simple functions. Like vultures, ostrich aarakocra lack feathery coverings on their head and neck, but they do have some fuzz. Their long skinny legs are surprisingly powerful and their plumage is often black and white.

This variant of the aarakocra replaces the Ability Score Increase, Flight and Talons traits.

Ability Score Increase. Your Dexterity score increases by 2.

Flightless. Your wings are not powerful enough to take to the skies. Instead, your legs have become stronger, allowing you to run farther than your aerial counterparts. You no longer have a flying speed. Your base walking speed is 35 feet. You can also take the Dash action as a bonus action on each of your turns.

Massive Legs. You have long, powerful legs, capable of kicking some teeth in. Your legs are natural weapons, which you can use to make unarmed strikes. If you hit with them, you deal bludgeoning damage equal to 1d6 + your Strength modifier.

Powerful Build. A Medium or smaller creature can ride on your back if you allow it. You act independently, not as a controlled mount. You also count as one size larger when determining your carrying capacity and the weight you can push, drag, and lift. Your distance traveled while jumping is doubled.
