The Basics[edit]

The Wasteland is not a nation, but rather an enormous swath of land in which very little manages to grow. 5,700 years ago, the nation of Zora realized that it was in a losing war, and to counter this they blasted the world with raw energy in all directions. The Wastelands were once fertile, productive lands with many cities and millions of people, but the moment the purge happened, everyone was killed and the land ruined. Now, the Wastelands is so named because it is a giant desert which little can grow and nothing thrives in.

The Wastelands sits south of the East and West Dead Rivers, as well as the Dead Lake. The Styx runs through the western side of the Wastelands, but the desert and its ruin does not end until the Piked Mountains. In the east, the Kryann Mountains mark the end of the desert, as well as the Comet River. To the south, the Inner Sea stops the desert and holds at bay most of its denizens.

Where before millions of people lived, now very few and what they do could hardly be referred to as anything more than simply surviving. There are hordes of undead abound, from all classes, though the mindless skeletons and zombies are by far the most common.

The East and West Dead Rivers are aptly named, for once they enter into the Wasteland, and nothing at all survives the water while any creature daring to drink is sure to die. The Dead Lake is an oddity, for it is of the highest salinity of all bodies of water, even more so than the oceans themselves. So high is the salt that even if the water had not been poisoned, nothing would be able to survive within it. Belief is held that the lake used to be a vast salt mine that caved in during the Purge and polluted the water formed in the collapsed basin. The Styx, the river of the damned, flows through the Wasteland, and though the water is safe to drink, many dangerous creatures lurk within and nearby as a result.

Beliefs[edit]

No pantheons of gods exist here, and none would dare to enter. The souls of the dead are damned as no one will claim them, leaving them to wonder the Wasteland until put at peace by their own descendents. Though many here might pray to a random god or power, no answers are heard and none are expected.

Race & Gender[edit]

The few mortals that exist here care nothing about race or gender. Survival is the only thing that matters, and for that, one must be useful. Be they orc, goblin, elf, human, tiefling, or anything else, the small tribes care not, only that they are not a drain on precious resources.

Current Affairs[edit]

Due to the tribal nature of those that live in the Wastelands, few have any idea what is happening outside of their tribe.

As a whole, the number of Undead has greatly increased, or at least their activity has. Incursions of the dead led by the more intelligent of their kind has become almost common place amongst neighboring nations, to the point standing armies are almost required to remain on the border at all times. In addition, a vampire has taken up pirating in the Inner Sea, having a small fleet of ships crewed by the damned and attacking anything that comes into its sights. Where there used to be fleeting trade over the Inner Sea, now even fewer dare risk the dangerous venture across the water.

Classes[edit]

Common Classes[edit]

Bard: In a land so harsh that living is more surviving than anything, those that do survive are ever in need of something to take their minds off the dangers of the world. Bards are those few who can do so, inspiring their tribes, and bringing legends back to life.

Cavalier: Though life is harsh in the Wasteland, some animals survive, and the natives quickly take to taming those that they can. With the amount of time each village is on the move, the Cavalier is a common enough sight amongst the rare people.

Fighter: To survive, one must fight. As such, even the youngest of all people in the Wasteland have some training, and many take to it as a very passionate career. Always are they in need of fighters, and those that step up and fight well are often rewarded well within their tribe.

Sorcerer: In a land that was so saturated in magic that all things were killed, much lingers and can be found touching many of those who are born within. In a land where one must always fight, a Sorcerer is often at the forefront, casting powerful spells to weaken the advancing enemy before valiant warriors charge into battle.

Rare Classes[edit]

Divine Magic Users: Due to the very nature of the wastelands, no god is ever willing to touch the place, nor any within it. As such, no divine caster is ever allowed to come from the Wastelands, as their power is impossible to gain.
