Moosemen (3.5e Race)

The moosemen's(or Gulgoss', as they call themselves) origins are quite mysterious. No one quite knows where they came from or who made them. Some think that nature itself created them. They are very attuned to nature, but can be very violent, with short tempers and sudden fits of rage. Though normally friendly creatures, anyone who kills a plant or animal has earned a smackdown from several brawny moosemen.

Personality[edit]

A normal mooseman (or woman) is very gentle around other races and moosemen. However, harm the smallest mosquito or step on a single lichen and you can expect a severe beating or reprimand. Some moosemen eventually gain a moderate amount of tolerance after a couple of years of adventuring; these are unusual for their kind. They accept the killing of an animal only if it is in self defense, or if the killer is threatened with starvation.

Physical Description[edit]

Moosemen are usually 8 to 9 feet tall with large palmanated antlers on their head and hooves on their feet. They have large 3 fingered hands (aka Yoda) with opposeable thumbs. Their palms have rough pads and they can run on all fours. Their arms are about as long as their legs(very much like a gorilla), and have large barrel chests with bull necks(or is that moose necks?). They are completely covered with long shaggy fur, which is usually a shade of brown, black, or dirty blonde. Very rarely their fur is white. These moosemen seem even more in touch with nature, and usually become druids. They eat fruits, nuts, berries, and plants, but note that they only eat from a plant that can survive a little pruning. They speak Common with a sort of Russian accent. Coupled with their deep raspy voices(think chain smoker), they are very hard to understand. They especially have difficulty with Elven("A bunch of flighty nonsense").

Relations[edit]

They get along with most goodly races, especially wild and wood elves, and other such nature friendly races. They dislike dwarves and humans, with their disregard for nature. They hate orcs and other goblinoids and will charge into enormous odds to kill them.

Alignment[edit]

Moosemen are all lawful. Lawful good and lawful neutral are more common than lawful evil, but it happens.

Lands[edit]

Moosemen live in temperate forests, tending towards colder climates. The taiga is a common place to find moosemen.

Religion[edit]

Moosemen do not have a religion; they merely revere nature. If a moosemen has a religon, it is usually Obad-Hai or Ehlonna. Moosemen clerics can choose from Animal and Plant no matter what diety they choose.

Language[edit]

Moosemen speak Mooselandic and Common.Mooselandic evolved from a dialect of Giant. They can learn Elven and Sylvan but also often learn Goblin and Orc for swearing, since it has more foul obscenities.

Names[edit]

Moosemen are named by their parents. They also inherit a surname and earn a honorific. Some common Mooseman first names are -Boys:

  -Adrik
  -Aleksander
  -Abel
  -Conrad
  -Fillip
  -Finn

-Girls:

  -Elena
  -Angelika
  -Greta
  -Natasha
  -Heidi
  -Irina

Some common surnames are:

  -Hendelburg
  -Bauer

An honorific is earned by a heroic deed or the slaying of an enemy of nature. For example, a mooseman that slays an evil blighter(prestige class) might earn the name Blightslayer. One that figures out the cure to a plague that is killing the dire bears might be called Bearcurer. An honorific is formed by combining two words that have something to do with a deed a mooseman has done. Non-mooseman who are honored by a clan might also recieve a name. A common honorific in this case would be Gulgofriend.
