Green Whisperer[edit]

“Nearly all people can stand adversity, but if you want to test a person's character, give him power.”

—Intrepid Horgeon Dark Wanderer, Drow Green Whisperer, Book of Dark Prophecies

Becoming a Green Whisperer[edit]

Some say you can become inspired by the strangest of things, in fact while a bard was writing a song about death, life, and inbetween, Nature herself inspired him. He then became the first Green Whisperer.

Class Features[edit]

All of the following are class features of the Green Whisperers.

Weapon and Armor Proficiency: A Green Whisperer gains no additional proficiency in any weapon or armor for taking levels of this class.

+1 Level of Existing Arcane & Divine Spellcasting: A Green Whisperer continues training in both their previous arcane & divine classes, thus, when a new Green Whisperer level is gained, the character gains new spells per day and increased caster level as if they had also gained a level in an arcane & divine spellcasting class they belonged to before they added the prestige class. They do not, however, gain any other benefit a character of that class would have gained (improved familiar progression, for example). This essentially means that they add the level of Green Whisperer to the level of some other arcane & divine spellcasting class the character has, then determines spells per day and caster level accordingly. If a character had more than one arcane & divine spellcasting class each before they became an arcane devotee, they must decide to which class they adds each level of Green Whisperer for purposes of determining spells per day and caster level when they adds the new level.

Bardic Knowledge: A Green Whisperer may make a special bardic knowledge check with a bonus equal to his bard level + his Intelligence modifier + Green Whisperer level to see whether he knows some relevant information about local notable people, legendary items, or noteworthy places. (If the bard has 5 or more ranks in Knowledge (history), he gains a +2 bonus on this check.) A successful bardic knowledge check will not reveal the powers of a magic item but may give a hint as to its general function. A bard may not take 10 or take 20 on this check; this sort of knowledge is essentially random.

DC Type of Knowledge
10 Common, known by at least a substantial minority of the local population.
20 Uncommon but available, known by only a few people in legends.
25 Obscure, known by very few, and hard to come by.
30 Extremely obscure, known by very few, possibly forgotten by most who once knew it, possibly known only by those who don’t understand the significance of the knowledge.

Bardic Music: Once per day per Green Whisperer level, one can use his song or poetics to produce magical effects on those around him (usually including himself, if desired). While these abilities fall under the category of bardic music and the descriptions discuss singing or playing instruments, they can all be activated by reciting poetry, chanting, singing lyrical songs, singing melodies, whistling, playing an instrument, or playing an instrument in combination with some spoken performance. Each ability requires both a minimum bard/Green Whisperer level and a minimum number of ranks in the Perform skill to qualify; if a bard does not have the required number of ranks in at least one Perform skill, he does not gain the bardic music ability until he acquires the needed ranks.

Starting a bardic music effect is a standard action. Some bardic music abilities require concentration, which means the bard must take a standard action each round to maintain the ability. Even while using bardic music that doesn’t require concentration, a bard cannot cast spells, activate magic items by spell completion (such as scrolls), spell trigger (such as wands), or command word. Just as for casting a spell with a verbal component, a deaf bard has a 20% chance to fail when attempting to use bardic music. If he fails, the attempt still counts against his daily limit.

Soothe The Savage Beast (Ex): Creatures of the animal and magical beast types suffer a -2 penalty on all saves against the green whisperer's fascinate, suggestions, and mass suggestion uses of bardic music.

Green Ear (Su): A 5th-level Green Whisperer's mind-affecting bardic music abilities affect creatures of the plant type.

Ex-Green Whisperer[edit]

A Green Whisperer who ceases to revere nature, changes to a prohibited alignment, or teaches the Druidic language to a non-druid loses all spells and druid abilities (including her animal companion, but not including weapon, armor, and shield proficiencies). They cannot thereafter gain levels as a druid. However, a Green Whisperer who becomes lawful in alignment cannot progress in levels as a bard, though he retains all his bard abilities. The Green Whisperer can regain lost bard or druid level by atoning (see the atonement spell description).

Campaign Information[edit]

Green Whisperers in the World[edit]

As kingdom cannot strive without it's rulers, this forest cannot strive without me..., Teoryran Kored Noble Green Whisperer/Arcane Hierophant

They spend time in the wildest corners of the world, humming soft lullabies for an adoring audience of birds, beasts, and flowers. A green whisperer tends to be introspective and is more comfortable in the presence of unspoiled nature than in the depths of a dungeon. Still, they are not immune to the lure of adventure, and most share the bard's much storied wanderlust.

NPC Reactions: People tend to think green whisperers are a little over zealous about the world the live in so they tend to avoid them.

Green Whisperer Lore[edit]

Characters with ranks in Knowledge (History) or lore can research Green whisperer to learn more about them. When a character makes a skill check, read or paraphrase the following, including information from lower DCs.

Knowledge (History)
DC Result
11 Green Whisperers are duel casters.
16 Green whisperers perform tales of folk heroes therefore they are the present historian for an adventure.
21 Green Whisperers earned the title by whispering to the trees and gaining insight on things from nature herself.
26 Believe it or not, but Green Whispers can speak to the spirit of an enormous urban city or village.

Green Whisperers in the Game[edit]

Most green whisperers are multiclass bard/druids. The majority of green whisperers are human, elven, or half-elven, but members of other races are by no means excluded.

Adaptation: Green Whisperers are commonly casters who have balanced a love of nature with profound understanding of lore and folk magic to control in Arcane & Divine Arts. While commonly dabbling with other forms of power, they can occur basically anywhere.
