Class features:[edit]

Weapons and armor proficiency: A Disciple of the Flame does not gain any new abilities with weapons or armors.

Flock of the Phoenix (Su): A Disciple of the Flame gains the ability to turn herself into a tiny bird called a Houou, a creature highly respected and worshiped as a symbol of life and hope by many cultures. She can assume this form and return to her normal form once per day at 1st level, then once at 3rd, 6th and 9th levels. This is identical to the druid’s wild shape ability, except that the Disciple of the Flame can only assume the form of a Houou, and any items she may be carrying at the moment of her transformation are not absorbed into her new form, but are instead dropped to the ground with the exception of non magical clothes on her person. A Houou is a red and golden bird with a melodic singing voice, with the unique trait of dying and bursting into flames every day at sunset, just to be rebirth as a new bird with sunrise as the light of the new day bathes its ashes.

Natural Purity (Su): The Disciple of the Flame can change into a Houou bird with the ability to change form granted by a race or class other than Disciple of the flame, such as the wildshape ability of the druid, effectively adding the Houou to the list of forms she can turn into.

Spells per Day: Starting at 2nd level and at each Disciple of the Flame level thereafter, the character gains new spells per day (and spells known, if applicable) as if she had also gained a level in a spellcasting class she belonged to before adding the prestige class. She does not, however, gain any other benefit a character of that class would have gained (improved chance of controlling or rebuking undead, metamagic or item creation feats, hit points beyond those she receives from this prestige class, and so on), except for an increased level of spellcasting. If a character has more than one spellcasting class before becoming a Disciple of the flame, she must decide to which class she adds the new level for the purpose of determining spells per day.

Natural Spell (Ex): The Disciple of the Flame gains the Natural Spell feat as a bonus feat at 2nd level, even if she doesn’t fulfil the requirements for the feat, but she can only use it while in Houou form.

Low-Light Vision (Su): At 3rd level, a Disciple of the Flame gains Low-Light Vision, or if she already has it, the range of her Low Light Vision is increased by 60 feet.

Eschew Materials (Ex): At 4th level, a Disciple of the Flame gains the srd:eschew materials feat. In addition, the Disciple of the flame may ignore the material component of any spell she casts with a material component of a greater value than 10gp, if she pays 25% the price of the item in xp.

Fire Resistance (Ex): At 6th level, a Disciple of the Flame gained Fire Resistance 10 as their body becomes more in tune with the flames of the firebirds they follow. At level 10 this improve to Fire Resistance 20.

Darkvision (Su): At 7th level, a Disciple of the flame gains Darkvision 60 feet, or if she already has it, the range of her darkvision is increased by 60 feet.

Fire Wings (Su): At 9th level, a Disciple of the flame gains a pair of flaming wings which may be suppressed as a free action. These wings are not sturdy enough to fly with but they may glide, acting as per a Feather Fall spell when deployed. In addition, wing attacks deal 1d4 fire damage (Medium size, 1d3 for Small) plus ½ the Disciple’s Strength bonus (round down) and are treated as secondary attacks. They may catch flammable objects on fire, a Reflex save DC (10 + ½ HD + Con Modifier).

Wings of the Phoenix (Su): When a Disciple of the Flame reaches 10th level she may perform a special ritual involving her own immolation on a burning pyre. After burning to ashes, she is revived 10 minutes later. The process permanently removes 5 hit points, but changes her body so that upon her death, so long as the body remains in some fashion (as opposed to death by disintegration), she will eventually revive.

On death she ignites and turns to ash, which deals 10d6 fire (Reflex half, DC 17 + Cha) damage to anyone within her square or grappling. This may also damage her equipment, if they are not stolen from her body (The equipment also gets a Reflex Saving throw). She will revive from this spot in 1d10 days, as per Resurrection. Though she can choose not to restore herself to life with this ability; she cannot choose to have her body not turn to ashes when she dies.

In addition, at 10th level, a Disciple of the Flame`s type changes to Outsider (Native), which means she is no longer affected by spells that specifically target humanoids, such as charm person. The Disciple of the Flame does not continue to age, and cannot be magically aged, she does not suffer penalties for old age, and when her time is due, she bursts into flames to be reborn on the plane of her patron deity.
