Class Features[edit]

All of the following are class features of the Barrage Mage

Weapon and Armor Proficiency: Barrage Mages are proficient with all simple weapons and light armor

Abilities:

Spell-like Ability: Magic Missile:You gain The Spell-like Ability: Magic Missile as per the spell.

Magic Missile Barrage: You cast a barrage of magic missiles from each of the cores. At level 3, 11, and 17 you can cast an additional Magic Missile Barrage spell from each core. The range of the ability is 45ft +5/level. The spell requires no components and is a spell like ability for purpose of metamagic feats and are subject to spell failure. Also this ability has the same characteristics of the Magic missile spell.

Control Magic Missile Core: You control a series of floating objects that are used to cast the spell like ability Magic Missile Barrage. If hit you must make a Concentration check with a DC of 10 + 5 (per Arcane Core level) for each core. For each concentration check that fails, you cannot use the core for your next attack.

Conceal Magic Missile Arcane Core: Your cores conceal themselves by distorting the light around them, a spot check with a DC of 15 + Caster level will reveal a glimmer of light showing there is something there.

Energy Substitution: Grants you the Energy Substitution feat for Magic Missile Barrage spell like ability.

Arcane Core Healing: Your cores pulse with positive energy healing the Barrage Mage as if they have the fast healing ability.

Empowered Spell-Like Meta Magic: All meta magics that effect spell like abilities have the number of uses changed to an amount of times equal to the Intelligence Modifier.

Arcane Cores Defense: When struck by a melee attack, a single Arcane Core will counterattack by firing its maximum number of magic missile barrage at them, at Level 19, two satellites will counterattack.

Energy Admixture: Grants the Energy Admixture metamagic feat for the spell like ability M Magic Missile Barrage. Can be used a number of times equal to the caster’s Int Modifier

Control Magic Missile Wave: As a full Round action you can have all 4 cores converge their attack onto a single target. This morphs Magic Missile barrage into a ray spell with the qualities that still have the qualities of magic missile. This attack does 20d4+20 and can not be used for another 1d6 rounds. If the initial target is killed by the cannon the attack will hit anyone directly behind the target for half the amount of damage and continue on, the third target taking a quarter of the damage and so on, until it does not kill its target or after 5 targets. Can only be used up to a certain number of times per day x the Barrage Mages spellcasting modifier.

Campaign Information[edit]

Playing a Barrage Mage[edit]

Religion: Most Barrage Mages do not practice any religion, but they are not prevented from doing so.

Other Classes: This class likes a lot of protection while sending large quantities of magic missiles at a target

Combat: Barrage Mages tend to stay in the back while firing volley after volley of arcane missiles at its target.

Advancement: <-Typical advancement options for characters with this class. Include desirable multiclass options->.

Barrage Mages in the World[edit]

And you thought I was out of Missiles!
—<-Viktor Surestrike->, <-Human-> <-Barrage Mage->

Barrage Mages tend to be secluded only really having a Master and Apprentice relationship and therefore are not very social. Barrage Mages like to hide their cores since they can be delicate to physical attacks and are hard to replace. They love the thrill of battle however, despite the caution they have when using their cores.

Daily Life: Barrage mages will always try to sharpen their accuracy and control of their barrages, making them almost similar to the spell magic missile itself. They tend to take mercenary type jobs, where they can be paid to fight creatures.

Organizations: This class is rarely found walking about, at least to the common people's knowledge. It is hard to determine a Barrage Mage without seeing it's cores. They tend to gather looking for mercenary work in bars and the like.

NPC Reactions: Most people will see the person as a wizard or arcane user. When it comes time for battle, a lot of people are a bit baffled by the ability the barrage mage holds.

Barrage Mage Lore[edit]

Characters with ranks in Knowledge(Arcana) can research Barrage Mages to learn more about them, however without a sufficient spot check, they will appear to be a evocation wizard. When a character makes a skill check, read or paraphrase the following, including information from lower DCs.

Knowledge Arcana (Reroll if they pass the Spot Check)
DC Result
5 Is a Wizard. (If they pass the spot check, knows it's a unique Mage.)
10 is an Evocation Wizard. (If they pass the spot check, They know it's a barrage mage and use the cores.)
15 They are more than just a Wizard but are not sure what. (If they pass the spot check, they know they can cast multiple barrages of missiles and from each of the cores orbiting the mage.)
20 Uses an magical implements to deal Damage. (If they pass the spot check, They know that the mage is very weak and can be taken down with strong melee attacks)

Barrage Mages in the Game[edit]

This class is a blaster, who's sole purpose is to deal a large amount of damage to a single target or spread its damage throughout multiple targets

Sample Encounter: A Barrage Mage has a mercenary job to take out a group of bandits.

EL : <-Encounter scenario and character info on sample NPC including stat block. The CR of the NPC is typically the same as the EL for the encounter.->.
